Plant a tree with every wallpaper purchase
If there’s one thing more important to us than transforming your homes, it’s ensuring that we protect our planet in the process. That’s why we’re partnering with One Tree Planted to deal with deforestation head-on. Through their tireless work with local communities across the globe, they have helped reforest areas damaged by flooding and wildfires, help rebuild communities, and protect the planet’s biodiversity. Since 2014, they have planted over 15 million trees, meaning they are responsible for removing 330 million kg of carbon a year.
Why trees, you ask?
Why not we say. The earth’s respiratory system, not only do trees oxygenate the air we breathe, they provide a home for over 80% of the world’s biodiversity, and jobs to more than 1.6 billion people – not to mention they are vital ingredients in 25% of all medicines. As of 2020, we have lost 46% of the world’s forests. Each year, an area the size of Pennsylvania is lost due to agriculture, development, and climate change. One Tree Planted’s reforestation project restores damaged ecosystems, stabilises soil, and helps support the global water cycle.
How it works
The clue is in the name. For every roll of wallpaper or pair of blinds we sell, One Tree Planted will plant one tree. So far, our partnership has got over 1666 trees in the ground, covering an area the size of 23.5 football pitches and removing more than 26 tons of carbon from the earth’s atmosphere. But we intend to achieve much more. Just as the trees we plant ‘give back’ as they grow, so will we. It’s a one-for-one system, and the more rolls of wallpaper and pairs of blinds we sell, the more trees we will plant.
But that’s not where it stops.
Each year, the global paper industry is responsible for over 200 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In fact, it requires approximately 24 trees to produce a single ton of paper. That’s why at Lick, all of our boxes are made from recycled sources and are 100% recyclable - up to eight times! Plus, our wallpaper partners use paper sourced from sustainably managed forests.
We’re putting our wallets where our wallpaper is, our dimes with our blinds, and taking responsibility for our impact on the planet. Not only are our products as eco-friendly as they can be, but we are offsetting the detrimental effects of any business, through our environmental partnerships. Just one mature tree can remove up to 22 kg of carbon per year, and we intend to plant plenty of them because a world without trees would be no world at all.
