Remove plastic from the ocean with each paint purchase
Cheese and wine, tea and biscuits, Jay-Z and Beyonce: they all make a great pairing. And you know what else does? Lick and 4ocean, because plastic and the ocean don't. Their team of dedicated captains and crew work throughout the year and the globe, to recover rubbish from our seas, rivers and coastlines, as well as working with local communities to and help abet single-use plastic dependency, and aid its proper disposal.
“Lick and 4ocean make a great pairing, just like cheese and wine, and tea and biscuits.”
Did you know that our planet is over 71% water? Not only does this water help to regulate our climate and atmosphere, but it is also home to 80% of the world's biodiversity. Not humans', obviously, so for millennia we have used the world's oceans as our rubbish dump. Not a problem when all your waste is biodegradable.
Absolutely a problem with the invention of plastic. Up to 90% of marine debris is made up of plastic, and some researchers suggest that by 2050, it could weigh more than all of the fish in the sea. A terrifying prospect and one that we don't want to find out. That's why Lick and 4ocean are committed to doing everything we can to help remove plastic from our oceans and ensure there are always plenty more fish in the sea.
How it works
For every 2.5 litre paint tin we sell, 4ocean removes 18g of plastic (that's the equivalent of two plastic bottles). So far, we have helped to remove just over five tons of plastic from the sea - just short of 51,000 plastic bottles! But that's just a drop in the ocean compared to 4ocean's formidable work. Since 2017 they have rid our seas of almost 5600 tons of plastic, equalling the weight of over 33 Boeing 747s. And those numbers are increasing daily.
Not only does 4ocean's crew scour the seas, removing plastic waste, but they also document and recycle the plastic collected. And for what can't be recycled, they employ local artisans – in Bali, Africa, Europe, and South America – to turn plastic waste into works of art. Like their bracelets, which are made from 100% recycled bottles. Working directly with the local communities, they organise beach clean-ups and help educate individuals on the damaging effects of single-use plastic, more eco-friendly alternatives, and how to dispose of plastic waste properly.
It was our zero-tolerance attitude towards plastic waste that led to our partnership with 4ocean, but the same goes for all of our products. Everything possible is recyclable, and for those that aren't, they are manufactured in EU -based factories upholding the highest eco-credentials.
How can you help?
