Ah, spring. Arguably the most joyful season of the year is here. It’s also the season where we see some of the most wonderful colors on display, as florals and pretty plants bloom to beauty.

Interestingly, our good mood in spring isn’t just related to the fact that it’s getting warmer (although that definitely doesn’t hurt). According to color psychology, the colors we are surrounded with in the spring season also have a positive impact on our mood.

Keep that good mood going all year round by discovering the ultimate spring color palette for your home. But first, more on the psychology behind it.

The psychology behind spring colors

Did you know that there are 4 personality types related to the 4 seasons? The character traits of a spring color are: playful, bright, energetic, optimistic, joyful, creative, open, imaginative, fun, self motivated, stimulating. Phew. Not a bad bunch of traits to bring into your home.

As our Lead Color Specialist Tash says: “The unique characteristics behind the spring personality type are bursts of energy, creativity & warmth”.

So, let’s get into the colors themselves. Our color consultants informed us that other than the undertone; you either have yellow or blue based colors. You can, of course, add other undertones to those colors.

When it comes to the seasons, autumn and spring colors are yellow based and summer and winter colors are blue basedAs Tash says, “What makes spring colors unique and separate to autumn colors is that they are all entirely yellow based - all spring colors have no black added to them. This is what gives them the highly saturated, clear and fresh feel”. Yellow based colors have a warmth and inherent bounce and vitality to them - including all the lively, happy energy that we associate with springtime.

As spring colors are all yellow based, they too have that warmth and inherent lightness to them. Pastels fit in well, but colors can also be brighter, such as yellows, pinks, turquoises, greens and even oranges and reds. To help you introduce this color palette into your home, we’ve picked out some of our favourite Lick spring paint colors.

Bring that core spring color of yellow into your home with the soft, creamy Yellow 01. We love this color in kitchens, nurseries and even bathrooms.
